Hertfordshire Philharmonia in concert at St Saviours church, St Albans, 2004 (high resolution 673 Kb)
The Hertfordshire Philharmonia was formed in 1994 with the joint aims of bringing high quality accessible music to Hertfordshire and providing a showcase for some of the county's finest musicians. We are a self-governing, independent orchestra. We choose our own programmes and we choose our conductors, separately for each concert and never the same one for consecutive concerts.
We choose our conductors to bring fresh and interesting insights into both standard and unusual works in the classical repertoire. We engage eminent and emerging soloists from around the United Kingdom.
No symphony orchestra can survive solely on the income it receives from ticket sales alone. In addition to our own concert season, we are hired by other organisations for a variety of performances and we also rely on the generous support of donations from Friends of the Orchestra. Contributions can range from £25 to help print tickets to £1500 to sponsor a soloist. If you would like to become a Friend of the Orchestra or be involved with us in any other way, please contact John Cox on 01727 - 857827.
In addition the Hertfordshire Philharmonia 100 Club holds three prize draws per year, with cash prices of up to £500. Details are available from June Martin on 01707 656088.
